Mission, vision and purpose of the CI3

The purpose of the Centre for the Innovation of Smart Infrastructures (CI3) is to contribute to the promotion and development of information technologies applied to infrastructures.

The CI3 has been incorporated as a non-profit foundation of general interest in accordance with article 34.1 of the Spanish Constitution and article 35.1 of the Civil Code.

The Centre has been developed by three founding trustees: Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha (JCCM), University of Alcalá (UAH) and Ferrovial.

The Centre for the Innovation of Smart Infrastructures is to become a reference centre in the research, development and innovation of technology services and products for advanced infrastructure projects in urban and inter-urban environments.

The main aims of the Centre for Innovation (CI3) are as follows:

  • To contribute to the development and promotion of smart infrastructures in general. In particular, this aim is to be achieved through actions designed to foster and develop projects in this field, among others.
  • Promotion of all the actions that improve the efficiency of innovation and investigation at the Centre and its interaction with research groups, trading companies and international institutions.
  • Creation of a specific environment for innovation and technology-transfer activities in the sector through the development of smart projects that are environmentally efficient and for social use.

Without detriment to its national and international vocation, CI3's main aim will be to provide ideas and innovation for implantation in Ferrovial's business, the promotion of investigation at the UAH and the performance of pilot tests at locations in the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha, involving business initiatives in the area as far as possible.

The Foundation will foster the research and transfer of technology between the academic and business worlds. Consequently, the research work carried out by the Centre may be considered as carried out by the University of Alcalá.

The Foundation will also publish and inform citizens of the options and services provided by smart infrastructures.
